CBPS Public School Family Update
March 27th, 2026
Principal's Message
Hello Cougar Families,
As we look ahead, we are hopeful that warmer, spring-like weather is just around the corner. We would like to remind families that there will be no school next week on Good Friday (April 3) and Easter Monday (April 6).
We are currently in the process of beginning our preparations for the 2026–2027 school year. If your child(ren) will not be returning to Collins Bay next year, we kindly ask that you please reach out to the school as soon as possible so that we can take this into account when planning class placements for next year. As always, we thank you for your continued support and partnership.
Have a wonderful weekend.
J. Cole, Principal

Day) and the first day of classes for students is on September 2, 2026. A printable calendar along with the 5-day cycle calendar are posted on the Board website here: https://www.limestone.on.ca/school-year-calendar
Mathematical Fluency
In math, students are building fluency by learning and practicing a variety of strategies for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Fluency means more than just getting the right answer—it is the ability to work with numbers flexibly, efficiently, and with confidence. Students are exploring different approaches such as breaking numbers apart, using known facts, and applying mental math strategies to solve problems in ways that make sense to them. By developing these skills, students deepen their understanding of numbers and become more confident, adaptable mathematicians. Below are some of the strategies your child is learning at school—ask them which strategy they are currently working on!
School Council
The focus of School Council is to meet to discuss events and fundraisers at CBPS, bring up issues with administration, and plan special opportunities for students and families. The support they provide to our students and staff is invaluable.
A major contributor to the councils fundraising efforts is through their association with Community Spirit Bingo ,whose proceeds play a meaningful role in supporting local charities and non‑profits, including Collins Bay Public School.
The school currently sends two volunteers twice a month for two hours, and this commitment brings in over $1,000 each month to directly support students.
These funds help enrich educational experiences through hands‑on, experiential learning opportunities, strengthen school sports teams, and provide essential classroom resources.
If you would like more information about this volunteer fundraising opportunity please contact SAC Chair Alyssa Baird atabaird25@gmail.com.
Our next School Council meeting will be held Thursday, May 7th at 5:30 in the library.
All CBPS guardians are invited to join us. Meeting will also be offered virtually through Teams. Hope to see you there!

PlayYGK! Charitable Gaming Fundraising
Through our School Council, Collins Bay is a proud participant in Charitable Gaming! Through funds raised at @PlayYGK, we can continue our important work supporting students. Moneys raised from this partnership goes to covering a variety of expenses, including yark equipment and paying for buses for our field trips!
Hot Lunch Schedule
Please note that when buses are cancelled due to weather our hot lunch program will also be cancelled for the day. Families will be notified of this by email from the school prior to the start of the school day. Families will be refunded the cost of the lunch for that day.
