Principal's Message
Hello Cougar Families,
Spring has finally sprung and it certainly feels like summer weather has arrived! Our students and staff have been enjoying the sunshine and all of the exciting activities happening around the school as we head into the final weeks of the year.
Students in Grades 3 and 6 are currently participating in EQAO assessments. We are proud of all the hard work they have put in throughout the year and appreciate families’ support in helping students arrive rested, prepared, and ready to do their best each day.
A huge congratulations goes out to everyone involved in our successful production of Charlotte’s Web! The performance was truly a team effort and we are so proud of the dedication and talent shown by our students and staff. Thank you to Ms. Desarmia for spearheading the production, Ms. McLinton for helping with sound and rehearsals, Madame Samifanni for supporting with lights and the bulletin board, and Ms. Boyce for her work with the bulletin board, costumes, and ticket sales. Congratulations to our amazing cast and crew for a job well done! We would also like to sincerely thank our School Advisory Council (SAC) for generously funding this wonderful project and helping make the experience possible for our students.
A reminder to families that Thursday, May 29 is a PA Day, so there will be no school for students. We are also looking forward to our Year End Celebration on June 10 and our Kindergarten Open House on June 8 (please see details below).
Thank you for your continued support throughout this busy and exciting time of year. Have a wonderful weekend!
J. Cole, Principal

Mathematical Fluency
In math, students are building fluency by learning and practicing a variety of strategies for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Fluency means more than just getting the right answer—it is the ability to work with numbers flexibly, efficiently, and with confidence. Students are exploring different approaches such as breaking numbers apart, using known facts, and applying mental math strategies to solve problems in ways that make sense to them. By developing these skills, students deepen their understanding of numbers and become more confident, adaptable mathematicians. Below are some of the strategies your child is learning at school—ask them which strategy they are currently working on!
PlayYGK! Charitable Gaming Fundraising
Through our School Council, Collins Bay is a proud participant in Charitable Gaming! Through funds raised at @PlayYGK, we can continue our important work supporting students. Moneys raised from this partnership goes to covering a variety of expenses, including yark equipment and paying for buses for our field trips!
Hot Lunch Schedule
Please note that when buses are cancelled due to weather our hot lunch program will also be cancelled for the day. Families will be notified of this by email from the school prior to the start of the school day. Families will be refunded the cost of the lunch for that day.
